Shailaja Dhumé Chandra[1] , Shailaja Dhumé Chandra is an author, OpEd writer, public speaker and former IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer. [2]

Early life and Education

Shailaja Chandra was born on 17th June 1944 at Bombay (British India) now Mumbai, in the Indian State of Maharashtra. She pursued her B.A. (Honors) in English Literature from Miranda House, University of Delhi in 1964 and completed her M.Sc. (Economics) from University of Wales (UK Parliament constituency), UK, in 1981. She has been a Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Nantes, France (2012) and has been a Senior Visiting Fellow at Shiv Nadar University. [3]

Career

Shailaja Chandra was selected to serve as Chief secretary (India), Delhi, the only woman to have occupied this position since inception. After retirement, Shailaja Chandra continued to hold full-time assignments under the Government of Delhi and the Government of India. For over 12 years she has been an Independent Director on the Boards of different companies in the Power, cement, Ayurveda, and hospital sectors.[4] [5] She remains actively engaged in events and activities especially connected with population, health, medical pluralism, governance, and gender.
