He was an IIT Bombay alumni[4] and founder of Rang[5] and Pankhudi Foundation[6] An India based social development organization and registered charity in India.
Early Life
Shahzad Akhtar Wakeel, was born in 1983 in Patna, India.
He worked his way through high school successfully. After high school, he took IIT JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) and ended up in IIT Mumbai. IITs are considered the MIT of India, and typically have a lower acceptance rate than MIT.
Student Life
He spent the most productive and formative years of his life in IIT Bombay (IIT-B).[7] One thing that truly satisfied his inner conscience was the honor to be called an IITian.
In IIT, he was an institute Fine Arts Secretary from the year 2003-2004. During this tenure, he started the RANG [8] - The Fine Art Community of IIT-B, to instill a zeal about fine arts in the student community. This community has really grown over the years and is a preeminent arts community with over 1400 members and has done a tremendous job bringing out the artistic side of its members.
Founding Pankhudi & Social Work
Just after passing out from IIT Bombay, he really wanted to give back to the society. With this in mind he started Pankhudi as a community in ORKUT[9]. The main objective of this community was to work on adoption of children who have lost their parents. Because of tough adoption laws, later the focus shifted to providing education support to underprivileged children in different parts of India.
Pankhudi was registered as Pankhudi Foundation[10] [11] in 2005 under the society's act. At present, the foundation runs six chapters in Pune, Delhi, Allahabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore along with its headquarters in Mumbai.[12]
Considered by his friends and followers as a true friend, guide, mentor and a truly amazing human being. Shahzad is thought to have created a legacy of love, kindness and inspiration.
