Shahid Iqbal Khan is a British Pakistani playwright. 10 Nights is his first published play. The playtext was published by Methuen Drama in 2021.[1]

Career

His first play, The Smile of Despair, was produced by Phizzical Productions. It ran for two nights at the Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester, in 2015.[2] A revised version. Mr. & Mrs. Khan, was selected by Octagon Theatre, Bolton, for their Top 5 Play Readings Festival, in 2016.[3]

His second play was Stardust by Phizzical Productions. Teamed up with Samir Bhamra to co-write book for the musical. In collaboration with Robby Khela and Devesh Sodha.[4]

It premiered at Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, in September 2019.[5] Brumhour called it "fun, dark and sometimes challenging".[6] The Stage commented that it was "an ambitious new musical struggling under the weight of its own ideas". [7]

10 Nights is the first play to receive a full production run in London, and is also his first play to be published. It was produced by Tamasha and Graeae and premiered at the Bush Theatre. The Guardian review felt that the lack of story "holds this funny and soulful play back from realising its full potential". [8] In the main, it received positive reviews. The Stage rated it four stars and commented that it was a "slow-burning smartly written character study". [9]
