Shaheen Chishti is a British author of Indian origin.[1] He is a world peace advocate, women's rights activist, businessman, and a member of the London Literary Society. His first novel, "The Granddaughter Project"[2] talks about horrifying experiences of women across diverse tragedies such as the Bengal famine and Holocaust with one commonality of hoping for a better future for their granddaughters.

Personal Life

Syed Shaheen Chishti is a descendant of Indian Sufi Saint Khwaja Mouinuddin Chisti.[3] Shaheen was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan. At 15, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he spent most of his adult life. Working full-time in investment banking, Shaheen completed his debut book in his late 40s. He lives in London with his two daughters.

Career

Shaheen studied at Mayoor School, Ajmer, and Holland Park School London. He graduated in accountancy from London Guildhall University and had his first job at Deutsche Bank. Shaheen has been a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountant FCCA since 2005. He is the Chairman of Chishti Group- a global group providing IT, shipping, and asset management solutions.

Activism

Shaheen Chishti has been running an active campaign to include India in the United Nations Security Council.[4] The Chishti Group marked a silent protest on October 2, 2021, by keeping a fast to achieve the same.

He founded the Shaheen Chishti Women Empowerment Foundation to help women with breast screening, cervical cancer tests, STD diagnosis, etc.

He is an advocate of religious harmony and world peace. He founded the Jewish Islamic International Peace Society and has been a member of the Muslim-Jewish Forum in London. For making Jewish culture accessible, he launched two websites in Urdu - The Holocaust and Welcome to Israel.[5]

The Granddaughter Project

Shaheen Chisti's debut novel, "The Granddaughter Project"[6] was published by Nimble Books in 2021.[7][8]

The book talks about the heart-wrenching experiences of three women having lived through different tragedies - Kamala born during the Bengal Famine of 1943, Helga a Holocaust survivor, Lynette a child of the Windrush generation using their voice for the betterment of future generations of women in their family.[9]
