Serkan Kaya (born July 24, 1977 in Leverkusen) is a German actor and musical performer.[1]

Life

Serkan Kaya grew up in Germany as the child of Turkish immigrants. He studied acting and musicals at the Folkwang University in Essen from 2000 to 2004.[2] With his band Estonia Fantasies, he performed at the Leverkusen Jazz Days and produced a CD.

His first roles took place in the Neuss Shakespeare Festival and the Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen, where he played Ferdinand, King of Navarre in Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost directed by Brian Michels. This was followed by a collaboration with Niels-Peter Rudolph with the role of Count Lasca in The Turk of Venice by Carlo Goldoni.

Kaya's first musical role was that of Emilio in Miami Nights at the Capitol Theater Düsseldorf. Under the direction of Kim Duddy, he played Ren McCormack in Footloose during the Amstetten musical summer.

In Passau he played the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. In 2005 Kaya was seen in We Will Rock You in Cologne and in Austria, taking a part in Elisabeth as Luigi Lucheni. In addition, he, along with Jessica Kessler, was also in the first cast of Galileo in Zurich and Vienna, while continuing to play the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Aalto Theater in Essen until 2008. In 2008 he played the role of Anatolyin in the musical Chess at the Aalto Theater in Essen. In 2009, Serkan Kaya was seen on stage as Sir Galahad in the German premiere of the musical Monty Python's Spamalot in the Cologne Musical Dome . From 2009 to 2010 he portrayed Che in Evita at the Dortmund City Theater. In December 2009 he played in Vienna at Musical Rocks! From March 2010 he was seen again at the Aalto-Theater Essen as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and since spring 2010 at the Theater Magdeburg as Bernardo in West Side Story. In the summer of 2010 he was a guest at the Heidelberg Castle Festival in the role of Laertes in Shakespeare's Hamlet. He was also with Musical Rocks! on tour in Germany and Austria. From October 2010 he was at the Staatstheater Kassel in Stephen Sondheim's musical Into the Woods as the Wolf and Prince.

On January 13, 2011, the world premiere of the musical Hinterm Horizont took place in Berlin, in which he played the leading role of Udo Lindenberg . He played this role until the dernière on August 28, 2016 in the Potsdamer Platz. Kaya also appears at musical events, such as The Summer Night of the Musical in Dinslaken (2011, 2012) and Musical Allstars.

In 2021 Kaya won the German Acting Award for his comedic role in KBV - No Special Incidents.
