Serhii Kaminskyi is a Ukrainian entrepreneur and inventor from the Kirovohrad region of Ukraine.[1] He holds a Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) in Shipbuilding technology from Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.[2] He is a materials scientist and an engineer.[3]

Kaminskyi was the founder of Clean Energy Technologies and is the cofounder of the battery energy storage system (BESS) company SorbiForce, Inc.

Education

Kaminskyi‘s shipbuilding education covered complex engineering principles, materials science, and large-scale manufacturing processes.[4]

On May 9, 2025, Kaminskyi received an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) in Tempe, Arizona.[5] The Honorary Doctorate acknowledged his contributions to technology development and energy manufacturing.

Early Career

Kaminskyi founded Clean Energy Technologies in May 2015. Clean Energy Technologies continues to provide research and innovation services on a contractual basis.[1] Kaminskyi has consulted for over ten startups within the renewable energy sector.[4]

Kaminskyi began developing the concept for a nonmetal battery that utilizes agricultural waste in the late 2010s.[3] Kaminskyi‘s research group was operating from an R&D Center opened in 2019 on the premises of the Promprylad.Renovation innovation center in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, and received direct support from the Nobel Foundation.[1] The Nobel Foundation support focused on the research group’s development of unique carbon-based batteries utilizing agricultural waste.[1]

Founding SorbiForce, Inc.

Kaminskyi co-founded SorbiForce, Inc. in August 2022 alongside Oleg Sheremeta, who serves as Chief Business Development Officer.[6] Kaminskyi holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).[1] SorbiForce produces nonmetal batteries that use ultra-porous carbon from agricultural waste as a key component.[7]

SorbiForce was initially incubated in Ukraine at the Promprylad.Renovation innovation center, where Kaminskyi's R&D laboratory was located.[3] SorbiForce subsequently relocated its headquarters to Phoenix, Arizona, with its legal headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.[8] Kaminskyi has stated that relocating to the U.S. was driven by a need to access key markets, investment capital, and a more stable environment for scaling deep tech.[4]

Leadership at SorbiForce

As CEO, Kaminskyi leads a team of scientists, many of whom relocated from Ukraine to Phoenix, Arizona.[9] By 2021, SorbiForce successfully developed a 2 kWh working prototype of a nonmetal, nonflammable battery that utilizes agricultural waste, natural salts, water, and other sustainable materials to provide industrial-scale energy storage services.[10] As of June 2025, SorbiForce has a 10 kWh prototype[11] and is preparing more than 200 kWh of batteries for pilot projects by the end of 2025.[3]

Kaminskyi's stated mission for SorbiForce is to build "tools for energy independence, sustainability, and resilience," facilitating a transition to renewable energy sources paired with sustainable batteries.[12] He also advocates for "decentralization in the energy sector," with batteries as a key element for achieving energy resilience.[1]

Publications and Research

Kaminskyi leads a dedicated R&D center in Ukraine and is a materials scientist.[3] Additionally, Kaminskyi is a co-author of the academic paper "The Role of the Circular Economy in Advancing Environmentally Sustainable Industrial Production," published in the Grassroots Journal of Natural Resources, Vol.7, No.3 (December 2024).[13]
