Segun Aina, OFR (born January 31, 1943).[1] is the chairman of Odu'a Investment Company, chairman of Global Banking Education Standards Board (GBEStB) [2], Chairman, Fintech Associates Limited [3][4] and vice chairman of Accion Microfinance Bank Limited. He is the chairman of Opolo Global Innovation Ltd., an innovation advisory platform for trailblazers who need infrastructure and a support network to grow and for investors who need promising startups and ideas to invest in. He was a member of the National Conference for the People of Nigeria, which was made up of 492 eminent Nigerians [5][6]in diverse fields[7] [2]

Early life and education

Segun Aina was born in Otan Ayegbaju in Osun State, Nigeria, in 1943. Segun Aina is a graduate of accounting from the University of Lagos. He obtained the professional banking qualification of Associateship of the London Institute of Banking and Finance, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos, and a Master of Science degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan. He had the best dissertation in the 1984 class of M.Sc. Banking and Finance at the University of Ibadan. In addition, he received executive management education at the Lagos Business School, Nigeria; INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France; and IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.

Honors and Accomplishments

He received the award of Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa) in December 2013 from the Achiever’s University, Owo, and in November 2016, he received an honorary award of Doctor of Science Education (D.Sc. Ed.) in Business Education (Honoris Causa) from Tai Solarin University of Education [8], Ijebu Ode. He was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Science in Management (D. Sc. Honoris Causa) in 2018 by the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

Career

Dr. Segun Aina started his career as a bank clerk at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in 1974. He left as a branch manager after 15 years with UBA in 1989. He moved to the then-newly established Ecobank Nigeria Plc, where he became the executive director after four years of service. In 1999, he moved to Fountain Trust Bank (now part of Heritage Bank) as managing director and chief executive officer.
