Sebastián Mejía Barberena (born August 1984, Cali, Colombia) is a Colombian‑American entrepreneur and investor. He is known for co‑founding the technology companies Rappi, Grability, and Tako, and for serving on corporate boards in Latin America.
Career
Mejía began his professional career at G2 Investment Group in New York, where he worked as an analyst. In 2013, he co‑founded Grability, a mobile‑commerce startup focused on supermarket solutions.[1]
In 2015, he co‑founded Rappi, one of the first “super apps” in Latin America. The company secured funding from major global investors, including SoftBank and Sequoia Capital.[2][3]
In April 2025, Mejía stepped down from his executive role at Rappi to focus on new ventures, while continuing to serve on its board of directors.[4] Later that year, he co‑founded Tako, a Brazil‑based startup specializing in AI‑driven payroll and human resources software.
Board membership
As of 2021, Mejía holds a seat on the board of directors at Grupo Televisa, one of the largest media corporations in Latin America.[5]
Recognition
In 2019, Mejía was named to the Bloomberg 50, an annual list featuring influential figures in global business and innovation.[6]
