A search engine is a software system that is intended to assist users in doing online searches. They search the World Wide Online in a methodical manner for specific information provided in a textual web search query. The search results are often shown as a list of results, which is referred to as a search engine results page (SERPs) The material may include a combination of links to web sites, pictures, videos, infographics, essays, research papers, and other kinds of media. Some search engines also harvest data from databases and open directories, which is not always the case. Unlike web sites, which are solely updated by human editors, search engines also keep real-time content by running an algorithm on a web crawler. The deep web is a term used to describe internet information that cannot be found using an online search engine.
