Scott Westby is a Canadian film Director, Producer and Screenwriter. He is most known for Producing the 2016 feature film in Plainview, and Directing the 2021 feature film Jonesin.

Early life and education

Westby was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta in August 1986. He graduated from the Film & Video Production Program from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology[1] in 2008.


In 2014, Westby was the first Calgary Screenwriter in 16 years to be accepted into the National Screen Institute's Features First program. [2]. That same year, he was elected to the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers' Board of Directors, where he served for five terms.[3]

In 2016, Westby Produced the revenge thriller In Plainview, financed by Telefilm Canada[4] [5] and The Alberta Media Fund, about a dirty ex-cop out for revenge against his former partner.[6] The film stars Aaron Douglas, Jesse Lipscombe and Shaun Johnston, and received the most nominations of any feature film at the 2018 Alberta Film & Television Awards.[7] In Plainview was released in January 2021.[8]

In 2018, Westby was named one of Calgary's Top 40 under 40 by Avenue Magazine.[9]

Later in 2018, Westby made his Directorial debut with the feature film Jonesin, a crime comedy starring Brandon Sklenar and Kristen Gutoskie about a small-town country boy who, in a case of mistaken identity, gets kidnapped and finds himself stuck in the big city in the middle of two rival gangs.[10] Jonesin premiered at the Calgary International Film Festival in September 2021.[11]
