Scott Heald Dalziel (born 1960), known professionally as Scott DL, is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival, has recorded with five-time Grammy-winner Bruce Swedien, and has a subscription channel on the GlobalNation TV platform developed by Todd Rundgren. He has recorded and performed in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Early life and education
Dalziel grew up in Manchester, Iowa. He developed an interest in music at a young age after being introduced to the Beatles by his cousin, Eric Nelson[1], a bassist who later worked with Nick Gilder, Paul Stanley, and Kim Carnes. Dalziel attended West Delaware High School and graduated in 1978.
Career
During the 1980s and 1990s, Dalziel performed in bands while living in Iowa City, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. While in Phoenix, he played guitar in the band Spinning Jenny/The Jennys with Steve Easterling.[2]
Dalziel was named a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas in 2004 and again in 2007.[3] In 2012, he recorded original material with producer and recording engineer Bruce Swedien at West Viking Studios in Ocala, Florida. One of the songs recorded during these sessions, “Imperfection,” was included on the DVD accompanying The Bruce Swedien Recording Method, published by Hal Leonard Books.[4][5][6]
In 2018, Dalziel relocated to Cheltenham, England, where he formed the Scott DL Band. The lineup included drummer Paul Arthurs, keyboardist Peter Nemesvari, and bassist Mark Nye. After returning to the United States in 2021, Dalziel recorded Scott DL’s Enlightenment Saloon,[7][8][9] an 11-track album, at The Artisan Studio at Brucemore in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The album was released on March 10, 2023.[10]
In support of the album, Dalziel performed with a backing group that included Gerard Estella, Aurélie Berta, Jim Coates, Lincoln Ginsberg, and Dave Nanke.[11] Performances took place at venues including CSPS Hall[12][13] and Opus Concert Café in Cedar Rapids, as well as Hanson Auditorium in Manchester, Iowa.[14]
In 2024, Dalziel appeared in the first episode of Live from the Artisan Studio, a digital series hosted by Megan Turner on the @BrucemoreArtisanStudio[15] YouTube channel. In 2025, he collaborated with lyricist and digital media producer Eric Pals to launch the second channel on GlobalNation TV,[16] an online platform developed by Todd Rundgren.
