Scor (* 1989 in Bremerhaven, Germany; civil name Tim Oelrich) is a German rapper who is primarily active in the People's Republic of China using Mandarin. He lives and works in Shenzhen. In China, his stage name Ao Xi (Chinese 奧熙 / 奥熙, pinyin Aò Xī) is mostly used, respectively Scor奥熙.[1]
Life
Tim Oelrich was born in Bremerhaven, attended school there and grew up in the region. After graduating from high school, he completed a language study trip to Paris which was also motivated by his interest in French rap music. There he got to know several Chinese people. These contacts awakened his interest in China. In 2012, he traveled there for the first time.[2] In Tianjin, he began to learn the local language.[3]
While studying business communication at the HTW Berlin, he learned Mandarin on the side and completed several semesters abroad at Jiaotong University, Shanghai. After graduating in Berlin, he took a job in the marketing department of SF Express in Shenzhen in 2017. He quit this position in 2018 to pursue his career as a rapper.[4]
Career
At the age of 13, Scor began rapping in German, and partly in French.[3] Around 2013, he first came into contact with Chinese rap. Since 2018, he has been rapping primarily in Mandarin and publishing his music tracks and videos on social media platforms, as is common in the Chinese music scene. He uses the video platform Bilibili and Douyin in particular, as well as the microblogging service Sina Weibo. Scor gained greater public attention in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, his music explored China's lockdown measures, among other things. He also made his breakthrough in 2020 with the diss track Fortune Code against a video creator active on Douyin.[5]
In 2020, he participated in the casting show Rap for Youth and made several live performances.
Since 2022, Scor has also been active in German on Tiktok and Youtube.[6] In addition to his music, he provides insights into everyday life and cultural features in China. Chinese cuisine also plays a major role. The Tiktok account has around 400,000 subscribers, while his main channel on Youtube has around 165,000.[5] He also uses the Twitch and Instagram platforms.
