Sarath Sabha[1] is an Indian actor who appears in Malayalam cinema. He is best known for his supporting roles in Malik (2021), Kannur Squad (2023), and Odiyan (2018). He also played a prominent part in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (2025).[2][3]

Early life and education

Sarath Sabha was born and raised in Palakkad.[4] He loved watching Tamil films growing up. He began stage and drama acting in the sixth standard and participated regularly in youth festival drama competitions. He completed his schooling at GHSS Peringottukurissi.[5] He pursued a postgraduate degree in acting at the School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur.[4]

Career

During his college studies, he appeared in films such as Ottayaal Paatha, which won the Kerala State Award for Second Best Film in 2016. Many of his early projects, however, did not reach theatres. His first commercial cinema role was in Dominic Arun's Tharangam, where he played a naïve thief, marking his proper entry into mainstream Malayalam cinema.[4]

After graduating from the School of Drama, Sabha moved to Kochi to explore opportunities in theatre and film. He attended workshops, acted in stage productions, and worked as a freelance content writer for television channels.[5]

He gained further visibility with films such as Mr. & Ms. Rowdy and Jan. E. Man[6] (2021). The latter, in particular, brought him recognition within the industry. Known for adapting to diverse linguistic and cultural contexts, he has portrayed characters using different Malayalam dialects: the Palakkad dialect in Jan. E. Man, Kollam slang in Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, Kannur slang in Pranaya Vilasam, and Thrissur slang in Corona Dhavan.[3]

In 2025, Sabha took on a villainous role in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. The character, opposite a female superhero, marked a shift from his earlier comic and positive portrayals. For the role, he incorporated a Kannada–Malayalam speech blend to reflect how a Karnataka native might speak limited Malayalam. Sabha later mentioned drawing inspiration from Ishwar Malpe, a diver involved in the Shiroor disaster rescue mission, whose mixed-language communication influenced his performance.[3]
