Samir Rzayev is the president of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (since February 22, 2024). Previously he served as the First Vice President (2022–2024) and Acting President (2023–2024) of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC.

Life

Samir Musa oghlu Rzayev was born on May 8, 1980, in Baku.

Education

1997–2001 – Studied at Azerbaijan State University of Economics, graduating from the faculty of General Economics.

2001-2003 – Obtained a Master's Degree in General Economics at Azerbaijan State University of Economics.

2003–2004 – Earned a Master of Science in Finance and Investment from Durham University, UK.

Career

Samir Rzayev began his professional career as an Economist at the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan in October 2001. He held this position until September 2003, contributing to various economic analyses and policy initiatives within the bank. Following this, during the period from 2003 to 2004, Rzayev pursued further academic endeavors and earned a Master of Science in Finance and Investment from Durham University, UK.[1] Upon completing his master's degree, he resumed his career at the Central Bank as a Leading Economist. Subsequently, from July 2005 to March 2007, Rzayev served as the Head of the Foreign Reserves Management Division, overseeing the strategic management of the nation's foreign reserves.

Transitioning to the private sector, Rzayev joined Pasha Construction in March 2007 as the Finance Director, a position he held until January 2008. He then served as the Commercial Director until March 2009, playing significant roles in the company's financial management and business development.

Returning to the public sector in March 2009, Rzayev resumed his career as the Head of the Treasury Department at the Azerbaijan Mortgage Fund under the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan, where he managed treasury operations and financial planning until October 2016. Subsequently, from October 2016 to July 2017, he served as the Chief Financial Officer at the Azerbaijan Mortgage Fund, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, and overall financial management.

In August 2017, Rzayev transitioned to Azerbaijan Supermarket LLC, where he held the position of Trading Director until February 2022. While with Azerbaijan Supermarket LLC, Rzayev played a key role in directing trading operations and strategies.

In February 2022, Rzayev was appointed Vice President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC by Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.[2] He held this position until November 2022 when he was promoted to First Vice President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC.[3] In September 2023, he temporarily assumed the role of Acting President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC,[4] and in February 2024, he was officially appointed as President of the company by Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.[5]
