Saeed Dastgiri is a faculty member in the department of family and community medicine in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Iran.[1] He is mainly involved in activities in the field of community genetics including epidemiology, control and prevention of congenital anomalies, genetic risks, and genetic knowledge and education. He is founder/leader of the Tabriz Registry of Congenital Anomalies (TRoCA) in Iran.[2][3] This is the first programme for the surveillance of birth defects in the country. Under this programme, some control and preventive measures are implemented for children under 12 as they need. Dr Dastgiri is also a founding/steering committee member of AZAR Cohort.[4] Since 2014, this epidemiological programme has registered 14933 individuals in the area to follow up on chronic diseases. Dr Dastgiri was awarded, in 2020, the Down syndrome research prize & medal for achievements in the field of birth defects in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organizasion.[5] Over the past few years, he has been leading a community-oriented programme for family health history in young population in the northwest of the country. Dr Dastgiri is now a member of the WHO advisory group on adolescent health metrics.
