Sabu James is an Indian Cinematographer, alumnus of Film Institute Pune. He has been the Director of Photography for films in Malayalam, Telugu, Urdu, English and Fijian films. He is also a film Producer, Director, Editor and Writer. He has bagged several awards for his films. He is a film scholar teaching in various film schools. His noted films include Sontha Ooru, Ganga Putrulu[1], Oka Romantic Crime Katha[2], Highway to Suva[3], Chandrayaan[4].
Personal Life
Sabu James[5] was born in Uzhavoor, Kerala. He completed his BSc in Physics and later his MA in English from Mahatma Gandhi University[6], Kerala after which he pursued another Post Graduate degree in Cinema, from Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune in 1996.
Career
Sabu James started his career as the associate cinematographer to Sunny Joseph in the film Train to Pakistan. Later he worked as the associate cinematographer with PC Sreeram. In 2000, he produced and directed a children's movie Ente Kochu Kouthukam in Malayalam. He entered the Telugu film industry with Sontha Ooru as the cinematographer of the movie.
His other major works include Train to Pakistan 1998 in Punjabi/Hindi as the associate cinematographer, Chandrayaan 2010 as the cinematographer, Nenem Chinna Pillana 2013 as the cinematographer and Oruvattamkoodi 2023 as the Director, Writer, Cinematographer, Editor and Producer.
