S.S. Vikneshwaran (born December 11, 1980) is a Singaporean film director, writer, and producer best known for his contributions to the Singaporean Tamil film industry. He is the founder and director of Cosmic Ultima Pictures, a production company based in Singapore.[1]

Vikneshwaran started as a songwriter and writer before venturing into directing and co-directing. He became a full-fledged director in 2005 and has since directed several short films, docu-drama series, entertainment shows, sitcoms, drama series, telemovies, social campaigns and government interstitials. His notable works include Azhagiya Theevey, Muthamizhukku Mutham, Atcham Thavir, Adukku Veettu Annasamy, and Vadi Ready Vedi.

SSV’s first Devotional Single - which he directed and produced in 2021 - garnered a lot of attention on social media for its amazing song rendition and beautiful visuals of the Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore. The song went viral on TikTok garnering over 4 million views. His work is known for its creativity, emotional depth, and social relevance. He has also been credited with the Best Telemovie award at PRADHANA VIZHA 2004, Best Direction at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2019, and Best Single Digital Program and Short Film at the Asian TV Awards 2022. Vikneshwaran was also named the National Winner for Best Theme Song for "Adukku Veettu Annadamy Season 2" in 2022.

Career

Vikneshwaran started his career as a writer and songwriter before assisting in direction and co-directing.

In 1998, Vikneshwaran wrote his first full song, a Tamil devotional song for Sri Mariamman. Despite a failed attempt to release it as a single, he rewrote the lyrics 20 years later and produced it as a full-fledged single with a music video. Sung by playback singer Karthik, the song was released in October 2021 and went viral on TikTok with over 4 million views.

In 2004, Vikneshwaran began freelancing for various media and entertainment companies. At Megastar Production Pvt. Ltd., he produced, wrote, and directed successful TV programs under Mr. V. Kalaiselvan. Vikneshwaran's notable works include the highly acclaimed travel show, which he contributed to as a freelancer, and the award-winning Tamil Dance Competition for which he wrote, directed, and designed the logo from scratch. As a freelancer for various companies, Vikneshwaran also wrote and directed which included comedy skits and music videos featuring songs he wrote for Indian music composer Premgi Amaren.[2]

In 2015, drawing on his extensive background in the media industry, Vikneshwaran founded Cosmic Ultima, a film and video production company that provides a full range of services, from pre-production to post-production, as well as marketing and promotions. As the founder, executive producer, writer, and director of the company, Vikneshwaran brings his wealth of experience to the forefront. Cosmic Ultima produces engaging films, documentary series, promotional videos, brand awareness campaigns, and variety shows. The company utilizes cutting-edge software, technology, and production techniques to deliver top-notch results.

Vikneshwaran's notable works under his production company include the travel show "Azhagiya Theevey," the viral Tamil language campaign "Muthamizhukku Mutham," and the dark comedy film "Atcham Thavir." He also wrote, directed, and produced the iconic "Adukku Veettu Annasamy" stage drama, which he adapted for television. Clips and reels from Adukku Veettu Annasamy seasons 1 and 2 went viral on TikTok in 2022. His popular show, "Vadi Ready Vedi," started as a Tamil talk show in season 1, featuring Vadi Pvss as the host, and later transformed into a sketch comedy show in season 2.

In addition, Vikneshwaran has taken on various other production and directing projects, including several short films such as "Indian Heritage Center," "A Deepavali Love Story" by GovSg, and "Close the Deal." He has also worked on documentary series such as "On the Red Dot," as well as promotional campaigns for organizations such as Mediacorp, the Indian Heritage Center, SINDA Step Tuition, the Ministry of Communication and Information, and Edit Me.

Vikneshwaran, in collaboration with Cosmic Ultima Pictures, produced and directed a dedication video for the 2023 Tamil Language Festival, featuring Kollywood actress Gayathrie Shankar as the main anchor. The video showcased a game with Tamil words and cinematic songs and received over 400K views on social media.

Awards and recognitions

  • In 2019, he received the National Winner award for Best Direction (Fiction) at the annual Asian Academy Creative Awards for his debut Tamil feature film, "Atcham Thavir."
  • Vikneshwaran also won the Best Single Digital Program and Short Film award at the Asian TV Awards in 2022 for his work on "We Are One."
  • Additionally, in 2022, he was named the National Winner for Best Theme Song for the theme song "Yaaru Varraa" of "Adukku Veettu Annadamy Season 2.

Personal life

Vikneshwaran resides in Singapore with his wife, Koki Selvam, whom he married in 2021.
