Russell James (author)
Russell James is a British writer whose output includes crime fiction, historical fiction and biographical non-fiction.
Early Life
In the Sixties James worked in radio and the theatre before moving at the end of the decade to an entirely different life, first in computers with IBM, then into general management, then finally running his consultancy Business Aid. At the end of the Eighties he combined these activities with life as an author.
Writing Career
He was first published in 1989 when his Underground[1] was published by Victor Gollancz[2]. Since then he has published a dozen or so other crime titles, several non-fiction works (mainly small biographical encyclopaedias) and half a dozen historical novels[3]. He was Chair of the Crime Writers Association[4] in 2001 and 2, is a member of the Detection Club[5], and has published over two dozen books. In 2020 he published the third in his Victorian 'Croome' series, Man's Estate, and in 2021 he published his latest crime title, She Had To Die. Both of these were with his current publisher, Prospero Books.
