Russell Dorsey

Russell Dorsey (born December 11, 1994)[1] is an American sportswriter, reporter and broadcaster. He is currently the National MLB Insider for Bally Sports, Stadium and Friday Night Baseball on AppleTV+. He is also one of the hosts of the daily sports talkshow The Rally on Bally Sports.

Early Life

Dorsey was born in Hazel Crest, Illinois and raised in Park Forest, Illinois. He attended Illiana Christian High School before attending Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he received his bachelors degree in convergence journalism with a minor in business.

Career

Chicago Sun Times

Dorsey was hired as the Chicago Cubs beat reporter in July 2020[2] following the departure of longtime reporter Gordon Wittenmeyer. At the time of his hiring, Dorsey was the youngest beat reporter in Chicago at the age of 25.

Bally Sports and Stadium

Dorsey left the Sun-Times to join Bally Sports and Stadium in January 2022[3] to serve as National MLB Insider, a role which had not been held before. Dorsey is the only black national reporter in baseball. He also serves as one of the hosts of the daily sports talkshow The Rally on Bally Sports alongside Brooke Fletcher, Joshua Perry and Shams Charania. [4]

Friday Night Baseball

Dorsey joined Friday Night Baseball on AppleTV+ for the second half of the 2022 season in the booth as an analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Melanie Newman and former major leaguer Chris Young. Dorsey moved from the booth to a new role as studio analyst and insider[5] for Friday Night Baseball's pregame and postgame show with Lauren Gardner and former major league outfielders Xavier Scruggs and Matt Joyce.

Personal Life

Dorsey is based in Chicago, IL. He launched a podcast[6] in 2021 with sportswriter Jason Lieser of the Sun-Times called Sports Adjacent. He is represented by the Creative Arts Agency (CAA)[7].
