Roya K. Naini (born February 23) is an American and Swedish electronic music artist, producer, and composer based in Stockholm, Sweden.
Biography
Roya grew up in Olympia, Washington (K Records, Bikini Kill, riot grrrl) and started to play piano at the age of 4. She also played violin, flute/piccolo and guitar, and then later synthesizers. [1] She has credited the local Olympia public library for her early music exposure as well as the city’s DIY arts culture during the mid-90’s for her approach to creating music. [2]
Roya moved to Stockholm, Sweden in 2010 and began to produce electronic music. [3]
She received the Manifestgalan (Swedish Independent Music) award for best synth album of the year ("Årets Synth")[4] for her debut album Hive which was released in 2018[5]. Her first EP Trax [6] was also previously nominated.[7]
In 2020 she signed with Labrador to release Pulse. [8] Later that year she also released an experimental/ambient instrumental album Bound on her own label eshqi records which was composed on a Buchla Music Easel.[9] Bound received a grant from the Swedish Arts Council (Kulturrådet). [10] Her fourth album Traces was also released on her own label.
In 2022 Roya was awarded the STIM Stipendium. [11]
