Roy Gonzalez (born August 27, 1960) is an American Lowbrow (art movement), Surf art and Comics artist, known for his psychedelia stylings and satirical humor.[1][2]

Biography

Roy Gonzalez was born on August 27, 1960 in California, and grew up surfing and drawing in San Clemente, CA, the same town as his idol, the original surf comic artist Rick Griffin. Following in his idol's footsteps Gonzalez became a regular comic contributor to Surfing Magazine and later went on to co-published his own underground comix Surf Crazed Comics in the early 1990's.[3]

Gonzalez's work is recognized throughout the surf and skateboarding industry from his comics, event posters and multiple t-shirt design licensing deals.[4] Gonzalez crosses genres into the music scene with concert posters and album covers.

An avid traveler and surfer, Gonzalez's art and murals can be found around the world.
