Roop L Mahajan is currently the Lewis E. Hester Chair professor [1] at the department of mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech. He is also Thapar Chair Professor for Emerging Materials. He was executive director of VT's Institute of Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS) from 2006-2016. He worked at AT&T Bell Lab (1976-1991) was professor of mechanical engineering at University of Colorado for fifteen years.
Education and career
Roop was born in Punjab, India. He received a Bachelors in mechanical engineering from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in 1964, followed by an MS in 1969 and a PhD in Engineering in 1977 from Cornell University.
Mahajan is co-author of Buoyancy-Induced Flows and Transport.[2] He has written 200 articles as well as book chapters and several patents.[3] He currently resides in Washington DC.
