Roman Krennikov is a professional CrossFit athlete from Irkutsk, Russia. He finished second[1] behind Justin Medeiros at the 2022 CrossFit Games.
Early life
Roman Khrennikov was born in the city of Svirsk (Irkutsk region, Russia). As a child, he was engaged in break dancing and rowing on a yawl. He studied at the school of the Olympic Reserve for the track and field profile, a year later switched to gymnastics, at the same time he was engaged in swimming.
Career
In 2015, he started practiced CrossFit. In 2016, he moved to St. Petersburg, Russia together with his wife, having covered a distance of 3520 miles by car.
The first significant international competition in which Roman won was the 2018 European Regional CrossFit Games in Berlin. Then Roman became the first athlete from Russia who managed to qualify for the CrossFit Games. Unfortunately, due to problems with obtaining an entry visa to the United States, Roman was unable to compete in the CrossFit Games[2].
In 2019, Roman was also able to qualify for the CrossFit Games by winning the CrossFit Italian Showdown competition, but again he could not take part in them due to problems with obtaining a US visa[3].
In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CrossFit Games were held in 2 stages: online selection and the final part with the full-time participation of the top 5 athletes. Roman was able to take part in the online stage, according to the results of which he took 13th place[4].
In 2021, Roman took 1st place at the Dubai CrossFit Championship. In the qualification competitions for the Asian region CrossFit Asia Invitational, Roman took third place[5] and was able to get the right to participate in the CrossFit Games only as a result of winning the subsequent Last Chance Qualifier[6]. In the fourth year since the beginning of his professional career, Roman was unable to obtain a US entry visa due to the complexity of the process due to the restrictions associated with the pandemic[7].
In 2022, Roman received an athlete visa to the USA[8] and performed at the CrossFit Games in Madison, Wisconsin, where he took second place as a result[1][9]. Roman especially noted the assistance in obtaining a visa and preparing for competitions from the couple Pat and Roze Gilles owners of the Pat’s Gym in Madison[10].

Personal life
In June 2015, he got married. Roman's wife, Anastasia, is also a CrossFit athlete. In April 2022, Roman and Anastasia had a son, Lev. At that time, Roman was in the USA, training before performing at the CrossFit Games 2022[10].
