Roman Bondarchuk is a Ukraine film director who has directed documentary films including Ukrainian Sheriffs (2015), Dixie Land (2015 film), and Euromaidan. Chornovy montazh (2014).
His first fiction feature, Volcano (2018 film), was released in 2018.[1] It was originally intended to be a documentary taking place in the Kherson region of Crimea, inspired by a relative's plan to dig up the bones of deceased Germans in the area and sell them to their relatives. After the death of one character involved as a subject of the documentary, Bondarchuk adapted the idea into fiction.[2]
Early life and education
Bondarchuk graduated from the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University, where he studied under Yuri Ilyenko.[3]
Cinematic Influences
Bondarchuk cited the film The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972), by Luis Buñuel, and the discussions about the film he engaged with as a student, as part of his inspiration to become a study film.[4]
