Rodney Red Grant is an American politician and a mentor of young comedians and performers.

Early life

Grant was born in Washington DC and attended local schools, including Dunbar Senior High School, where he was an active student athlete. He received a football scholarship to Savannah State University before returning to Washington, DC, for further studies at the University of the District of Columbia. Grant began working for the DC Department of Parks and Recreation in 1992, where he acted as a mentor and coach for young people. He later relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Political career

Grant received attention for his 2022 mayoral campaign, notably for the number of signatures he gathered (4,700). In the election, while Muriel Bowser remained the incumbent, Grant placed second, receiving over 29,500 votes.

Community development

Through his non-profit companies "Shoot cameras, not guns" and "Beyond your block"; he has started initiatives and assisted current programs that help deter the youth from criminal actives. In addition, his strategy to give the youth a life skill that is applicable today.
