Rodney J. Fischer is a United States Army officer who is the commanding general of the 104th Infantry Division (United States).[1]
Education
Fischer graduated from Freedom High School (Wisconsin) in 1985 and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York from 1988-1992. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and Officer (armed forces) as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps (United States Army).
Fischer earned master’s degrees in business administration from the University of Colorado, and in strategic studies from the United States Army War College.
Military career
Fischer enlisted in the United States Army after graduating from high school in 1985. During his enlistment in 1988, he was selected to attend the United States Military Academy. Upon graduating in 1992, Fischer Officer (armed forces) as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps (United States Army) and served on active duty in a variety of staff and leadership positions at Fort Carson, Colorado. His assignments included positions with the 124th Signal Battalion (inactivated on December 16, 2004[2]) and the 2nd Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment that transitioned to the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment|1st Battalion, 68th Armor. In 1995, he deployed to Kuwait with 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (United States) as part of Exercise Intrinsic Action 96-1.[3]
After a break in service, Fischer joined the United States Army Reserve in 2002 and served in joint assignments with United States Space Command, United States Strategic Command, and the North American Aerospace Defense Command/United States Northern Command. In 2008, he led a 1st Space Brigade unit on a deployment to the Middle East in support of United States Central Command operations. In subsequent assignments, he commanded the 2nd Battalion, 356th Regiment (Logistics Support) at Fort Carson, and the 650th Regional Support Group[4] in Sloan, Nevada.
In May 2019, Fischer was promoted to Brigadier general (United States)[5] and assigned to be the deputy commanding general for the 80th Division (United States). On August 6, 2020, he assumed command of the 104th Infantry Division (United States)[6] [7]
Personal life
Fischer was born and raised in Freedom, Forest County, Wisconsin. He is the youngest of the nine children of David and Marilyn Fischer. He resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he works as a United States Department of the Army civilian for the United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command. He is married with two children.
