Rock Hendricks (born Aug 10, 1954) is an American saxophonist best known for his long-time collaboration with Paul Hardcastle, British musician & music producer.
Career
Rock Hendricks, born a California native (August 10, 1954), has been performing, recording and collaborating as a jazz and rock saxophonist throughout his life. Born clinically blind, Rock gained partial sight at the age of seven. He was given his first instrument by his father at age nine, accelerating the development of his natural talent. He fell instantly in love with the saxophone. As a child growing up, he cut his teeth learning and playing symphonic music such as Mozart, then gospel music and eventually discovering the music of Little Richard and Fats Domino, fueling his passion to master the saxophone. At age 15 (1955) he began performing soul music in front of audiences near his home in Danville, East of the Bay Area of San Francisco. Those experiences laid the groundwork for a career in Rock, Soul, Jazz and eventually Smooth Jazz.
In his early career he had the experience of playing and recording with such greats as Micheal Jackson, John Lee Hooker, Lydia Pense & Cold Blood (band), Funkadelic, Michael Bublé, Marvin Gaye, Marvin Gaye Jr. III, The Temptations, Bobby Womack, Coke Escovedo, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steve Arrington, The Family Stone, Bonnie Raitt, Leon Russell, Dave Mason, Sammy Hagar, Motown, Gabriel Hasselbach, Jeff Lorber, and more recently Paul Hardcastle[1].
Rock wrote and produced music for Electronic Arts in a successful game, The Sims[2] selling over 150 million copies.
He has spent 20+ years in Hawaii, performing and recording with a number of award-winning Hawaiian artists such as Cecilio & Kapono, The Cazimero Brothers, Music Magic, Nohelani Cypriano, Azure McCall, Kalapana (band), Tenyson, Stevons and with Mick Fleetwood at Mick's Maui venue, "Fleetwood's"[3].
In 2009, Rock began has recording with Paul Hardcastle, British music producer, composer in the Smooth Jazz genre, with over nine Billboard #1 smooth jazz hits[4], and their collaboration continues as of 2021. In 2016 Rock debuted his first solo album, "Can’t Let Go"[5] with Trippin ‘n Rhythm Records, to critical acclaim.
