Robert McPherson is a retired men's basketball coach most known for his tenure at the University of North Carolina Wilmington from 1986 to 1990. McPherson was also the men's head coach at Sam Houston State University where he won the GSC regular season championship in his final season with the Bearkats in the 1985–1986 season. Before Sam Houston State, McPherson also coached at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, and Western Oklahoma Junior College, in Altus, Oklahoma. He also had a successful high school coaching career with stops at both Pampa High School and Lubbock Coronado High School.
Personal life
McPherson is from Paradise, Texas where he met his wife of 57 years Linda McPherson. He has two children, Kent McPherson and Kristi Melton, who both reside with their families in Edmond, Oklahoma. He has four grandchildren, Jordyn and Connor McPherson and Karson and Kyler Melton, who all reside in the Oklahoma City area.
