Relocating to Lee, New Hampshire, in 1990, Eggers' stepfather's role as a provost at the University of New Hampshire played a pivotal role in their move. In 2001, Eggers moved to New York City to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, where he discovered his passion for design, direction, and theatre. Inspired by his New England childhood, he frequently visited the Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts, while crafting his first feature.
Career
Eggers initially immersed himself in theatre production in New York before transitioning to film. His directorial debut, "The Witch" (2015), earned critical acclaim and commercial success. Subsequent to the success of "The Witch," Eggers directed and co-wrote "The Lighthouse" (2019), receiving widespread acclaim for the period piece. In 2022, he released the Viking epic "The Northman" with an ensemble cast.
Eggers gained attention for his announced remake of the 1922 silent film "Nosferatu," showcasing his bold choices in film projects. Despite initial plans, he opted to delay the Nosferatu remake, directing "The Lighthouse" and "The Northman" first.
