Robert Bob Santos(Born July 15, 1971) is an American Boxing trainer & manager. Santos is the cousin of 1956 USA Olympian Luis Molina. In 2022 Santos was awarded Sports Illustrated boxing Trainer of The Year & The Ring (magazine) boxing Trainer of The Year.[1][2] Santos works closely with Luis Decubas Jr. and Al Haymon

Life and career

Santos, was born on July 15, 1971, in San Jose, California and was enrolled at San José High School between 1985-1989.

In 1990 Santos managed the career of his first professional fighter, Chilean Carlos Cruzat. Santos would next go on to then guide the career of Robert Guerrero since the age of 14. Throughout Santos's career he's worked alongside many of boxing's best trainers that include Boxing Hall of Fame Emanuel Steward, Chuck Bodak, Joe Goossen and Ronnie Shields

During Santo's career he has worked with many past & current fighters including Livingstone Bramble, Héctor Lizárraga, Joel Casamayor, Robert Guerrero, Erislandy Lara, Mario Barrios, Rances Barthelemy, Tomoki Kameda, Óscar Escandón, Yordenis Ugás, and other notable fighters like James Kirkland and José Celaya.

Santo's stable of fighters consist of current & former World Champions such as WBA Middleweight champion Erislandy Lara, WBC Interim Middleweight champion Carlos Adames, 2016 Olympian WBA Super Featherweight champion Héctor García, WBA Light Welterweight champion Alberto Puello, WBA Super Middleweight champion David Morell Jr and WBA Mini Flyweight champion Erick Rosa

2022 Trainer Of The Year

In 2022 Santos was awarded Trainer of The Year by The Ring Magazine & Sports Illustrated. In 2022 Santos guided Hector Garcia to two world titles, Alberto Puello & Carlos Adames to world titles.

On Februrary 26th, 2022 Garcia would challenge former Interim World Champion Chris Colbert on a 2 weeks notice, which Garcia was victorious with a unanimous decision. That fight would ultimately be regarded by many boxing experts as boxing's 2022 Upset of The Year [3][4][5]

On August 20th, 2022 Garcia would then go on to challenge former World Champion Roger Gutiérrez where Garcia would be victorious with a unanimous decision. In the same night Santos would guide Alberto Puello to a split decision victory over former world title challenger Batyr Akhmedov. Santos led Hector Garcia & Alberto Puello to back to back world title fights for 24 straight championship rounds.

On October 8th, 2022 Santos led Carlos Adames to a 3rd KO over Juan Macias Montiel for the vacant WBC Interim World Title.

Notable Fights

On May 4th, 2013 Santos guided Robert Guerrero to the biggest fight of his career when he went on to challenge former Olympian & five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr on Showtime PPV at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada.[6]

On July 12, 2014 Santos then took world champion Erislandy Lara to challenge four division world champion Canelo Álvarez on Showtime PPV at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.[7][8][9][10]

On January 7th, 2023 Santos would then guide Héctor García to attempt to become a two division world champion when he would challenge three division world champion Gervonta Davis on Showtime PPV at The Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. That fight would break & set the record for the Capital One Arena's all time gate record. The sold out crowd of 19,731 in Washington DC generated over $5 million dollars in ticket revenue, beating the venue's prior record holder, which was a Rolling Stones concert.[11][12][13]
