Rishi Singh Pahwa (born February 3, 1978[1] ) is an Indian entrepreneur based out of Ludhiana, Punjab. He is the Joint Managing Director[2] at Avon Cycles Ltd.,[3] one of the premium cycle manufacturing companies in the country. After completing his studies Pahwa joined the family business and brought to the table his global vision, and growth for the company by heading the Purchases and Works department of Avon Cycles[2] [1].
Early life
Pahwa was born into the well-known Pahwa family from Punjab, to Sarbjeet Kaur, and Onkar Singh Pahwa, engaged in the production of Avon Cycles with the manufacturing facility at Ludiana[4]. The company designed and produced cycles for people from different age groups in the country. People who had spent their childhood or adulthood in Punjab had access to Avon cycle. Pahwa who happened to be a blue-eyed boy because of his famous grandparents and parents had many comforts which a middle-class household in the country may not have[1], yet with his determination and hard work, Pahwa came out of the shadow of his father and grandfather and created an identity of his own. Pahwa has a younger sibling, Mandeep Singh Pahwa[2].
Education
To remain close to his parents and grow up in a joint family, like every other child his age in the city, Pahwa was enrolled in a local school for his studies[2]. He joined Sacred Heart Boys School, a CBSE school in Ludhiana and completed his schooling creating many happy memories. Later, he earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Punjab University[5][1].
Career
Pahwa had his eyes set on his grandfather’s cycle business that was incorporated in 1951, ever since he grew up to understand the importance of having a successful career and immediately after completing his graduation, he joined Avon Cycles Ltd., as a Joint Managing Director in 1999[2] [6]. It has been 21 years since and Pahwa has taken the family business up a notch in terms of both revenue generation and product modification[7]. Where his grandfather and father laid a strong foundation to the family business, Pahwa brought freshness and global appeal to the business with his contemporary outlook and sharp business acumen. He led the Purchases and Works department of the company from front[1].
From manufacturing 250 bicycles during its initial days to producing 2.5 million cycles per annum[2] the company has indeed come a long way and Pahwa has played a significant role in this achievement. The modern plants and machinery systems used to produce parts of Avon Cycle meet the global standards[2]. The company is also engaged in exporting bicycles and its parts[2].
Pahwa played a special role in getting Tiger Shroff onboard Avon Cycles Ltd., on April 1, 2019 as the Brand Ambassador for the Cyclux Range[8].
Honours and awards
As the Joint MD of Avon Cycles Ltd., Rishi Pahwa was conferred with an award at Swadeshi Mela 2015 at Chandigarh which was presented to him by the Minister of State for Finance, Govt. of India, Hon'ble Shri. Jayant Sinha[2] [1]. He received the “Northern Region Export Excellence Award” from MSME Secretary, Shri. K.K Jalan and FIEO, Shri. S.C Rahlan[2] [1].
Personal life
He is married to Pallavi Pahwa and together they have a child [1].
