Risha Grant is an American diversity and inclusion consultant, author, and keynote speaker. She is the founder and CEO of Risha Grant LLC, a diversity and inclusion consultancy firm based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has been featured in various media outlets, including Forbes[1], Entrepreneur[2], and Black Enterprise123. She has authored two books on the subjects of unconscious bias, authenticity, and inclusion.
Early Life and Education
Grant was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Lawrence Grant and Penny Ceaser. Risha Grant completed her early education at Sapulpa High School[3] where she served as senior class president and graduated in 1992. During her high school years, Grant developed a strong interest in basketball. She received numerous accolades and Division 1 scholarship offers to play college basketball.[4] Grant accepted a full basketball scholarship to attend a play in the NJCAA at Northern Oklahoma College. After two years, she transferred to Kansas State University, where she played Division One basketball in the NCAA. Due to injuries, she quit playing basketball during her junior year but graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Speech in 1996.[5][6]
Career
Grant started her career at a local FOX television station while also working for the local NBC affiliate. After being fired from FOX, Grant launched her first business, Relative Productions, a full-service video production company, in 1997.[7]
She also published Xposure Business Magazine, which focused on small businesses in the Tulsa Metro area. Grant also founded DiversityConneX.com, an online platform that allowed businesses and nonprofits to source professional, skilled diverse candidates for employment, internships, and board director positions. Grant closed the company in 2016.
Grant has trained and spoken before thousands in major corporations and organizations about unconscious bias, authenticity, diversity and inclusion recruitment and retention, and diversity communication.
Works
Grant's first book, "That’s BS! How Bias Synapse Disrupts Inclusive Cultures and the Power to Attract Diverse Markets[8]," was published independently in 2017. The book is a culmination of her personal anecdotes and client experiences in running an award-winning Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) communications and consulting company.
Her second book, "Be Better Than Your BS: How Radical Acceptance Empowers Authenticity and Creates a Culture of Inclusion[9]," is being published in August 2023 by Hay House Publishing. This book is a follow-up to Risha’s first book and expounds upon many of the concepts giving the reader a deeper dive into DEI, while also introducing Radical Acceptance.
Awards and Achievements
Grant has received numerous honors such as being named one of the Top 10 Most Powerful Women Leaders in HR by PeopleHum in 2021[10], Top 100 HR Expert as well as 1 in 9 Speakers Turning Crisis into Opportunity by Entrepreneur magazine in 2020[11], four years consecutive Engagedly Top 100 HR Influencers in 2019[12], 2020[13] and 2021[14] and 2022[15], Color Entrepreneur of the Year 2017[16] and Top 10 Business Keynote Speakers of 2021[17].
