Rigzin Skalzang is an Indian mountaineering leader and guide from Ladakh with close to 30 years of experience in the Himalayan mountains. He is the president of the Mountain Guide Association of Ladakh.[1] He is also the first Indian civilian to scale Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen in 2024.[2]
Major 8000-meter Ascents
- Annapurna (8,091m): Climbed without supplementary oxygen on April 28, 2022 (First Indian to achieve this feat without Sherpa assistance)[3]
- Lhotse (8,516m): Climbed without supplementary oxygen on May 14, 2022[4]
- Mount Everest (8,848m): Climbed without supplementary oxygen on May 23, 2024 (First civilian Indian to achieve this)[2]
