Richert Evan Tan (born February 21, 1999)[1], more popularly known as Evan Tan, is a Filipino-Chinese social media personality, actor and engineer from the Philippines. He is known for his comedic content and own rendition of Korean drama inspired skits.[2][3]

Evan is most known for initially growing popularity on the short-form video platform TikTok where he regularly posts his comedy and Korean inspired skits.[3]

Tan has also appeared in several TV shows and movies such as in the GMA picture film The Cheating Game, noontime show Eat Bulaga! and Family Feud Philippines.

Personal Life & Education

Evan Tan was born in Quezon CIty, Philippines on to a Chinese-Filipino family.[4] He grew up in Baguio City, Philippines. Tan is a fan of Korean drama and Kpop.[3] Most notably, he is a fan of Blackpink's Kim Jisoo and would want to meet her in person. Growing up, he expressed interested in arts, music and sports; and he became active in extracurricular activities. Tan was a consistent Dean's Lister in college and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Saint Louis University. He obtained his mechanical engineering licensure as well. Eventually, he decided to pursue a career in content creation and TV.[5][3]

Career

Evan Tan started his content creating journey during college after being inspired by the South Korean television show Who Are You: School 2015, starring Kim So-Hyun. It was in this Korean drama where he found his first celebrity crush, who inspired him to explore other fields aside from engineering and start creating content online.[3]

It was during the Covid-19 Pandemic that his online career started to take off when he started posting on the social media app TikTok. He started with posting cute videos of himself but eventually decided to move to posting comedic and Korean inspired content on his accounts since he thought that would benefit him the most in the long-run.[3] On June 15, 2020, he gained his first million followers on TikTok. Eventually on March 2022, he reached 10 million followers. He became known for stopping jumscares and for his catch phrase “Are you okay? You’re Welcome!”.[6] Tan is also a YouTube vlogger. And he is now considered one of the most followed content creators in the Philippines.[2][6]

Filmography

Tan had his first mainstream TV appearance in the Philippine noontime show Eat Bulaga! in August of 2022 as a Bida Next Contestant.

In December 2022, he appeared in KaKoLab 2022, an event organized by GMA. The network’s artists under its talent management, Sparkle Artist Center, were given an opportunity to collaborate with digital content creators and influencers.[7]

In February 2023, Evan appeared as a guest in Family Feud Philippines starring Kapuso actor DingDong Dantes under the team Creators United.

In July 2023, Tan appeared in the GMA Gala, a prestigious showbiz event to celebrate GMA's 73rd anniversary, as one of the influential digital content creators.[8]

In July 2023, Evan Tan had his first big screen appearance as an actor in the GMA picture film The Cheating Game starring Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz where he plays one of Hope's co-workers in the fictional media company, Hashtag Media. He also appeared in the red carpet premier of the movie along side his fellow co-stars.[9][10]
