Richard Trinder (born 1968) is a British actor, voice artist, audiobook narrator and musical theatre performer who played Death Eater Augustus Rookwood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). Further film roles include Loytnant Lewis in Kon Tiki (2012).

Television roles include Shaun Brookes in Brookside and Captain Harcourt in Dr Who.

On the stage, Richard Trinder appeared as Vince in Way Upstream by Alan Ayckbourn at the Salisbury Playhouse [1]. Trinder played Sam Carmichael in Mamma Mia! London [2] for nine years until October 2022. From July 2023 he is playing George in In Dreams at the Leeds Playhouse [3].

Personal life

Richard Trinder was born and brought up in North Wales. He attended Hawarden High School, and London University, where he studied German Literature.

He studied acting at The Poor School.

Richard Trinder was married to Samantha Beckinsale from 1996 to 1997.

He married actor and corporate trainer Kate Arneil in 2003. They have two children.
