Resonex, Inc. was a pioneering maker of affordable medical imaging equipment using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, or (N)MRI. Co-founded by William R. Brody in 1984[1], Resonex operated in Sunnyvale[2] and Fremont, California and created a portfolio of at least 16 patents[3]. In 1991, Resonex introduced its Paradigm MRI, a "substantially upgraded MRI system" with a relatively low price of $985,000, allowing it to be purchased more easily in states where a $1-million certificate-of-need limitation had been set.[2]

Under its president and CEO Gerald D. Knudson, in February 1994 Resonex defaulted on loan payments and its assets were acquired by its major creditor, Technology Funding Inc. of San Mateo, California.[4] After seeking a buyer[5], Resonex was acquired by GE HealthCare on September 1, 1995.[1]
