Rebecca Ruth Gould is a professor, translator, writer and scholar of the Caucasus and the literature's of the Islamic world who has shaped debates on world literature and non-Eurocentric epistemologies. She is the author of Writers and Rebels: The Literatures of Insurgency in the Caucasus, awarded the University of Southern California Book Prize in Literary and Cultural Studies and the best book award by the Association for Women in Slavic Studies, and co-editor of the Routledge Handbook of Translation and Activism (Routledge, 2020).
Gould translates from Persian, Georgian, and Russian. Her translations include The Death of Bagrat Zakharych and other stories by Vazha-Pshavela (Paper & Ink, 2019) and as co-translator, High Tide of the Eyes: Poems by Bijan Elahi (TheOperating System, 2019). She is director of the ERC-funded project “Global Literary Theory”.[1]
Gould has taught at Columbia University and Yale-NUS College and is currently Professor at the University of Birmingham (Islamic World and Comparative Literature).
