RapidDirect is a Chinese digital manufacturing company that provides on-demand tailored manufacturing and rapid prototyping services. The company operates manufacturing facilities and a digital platform that enables customers to submit computer-aided design files, obtain quotations, receive design-for-manufacturing feedback, and order custom parts. Its capabilities cover mechanical manufacturing, PCB electronics manufacturing, AI Creator solutions, and new product introduction (NPI) services.

The company is based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. RapidDirect's business model allows it to combine its own manufacturing facilities with a manufacturing suppliers network. Its online platform aims to streamline parts of the quoting, manufacturability analysis, and order management processes.[1]

History

RapidDirect began its manufacturing journey in 2009 with the establishment of its first self-owned factory in Shenzhen, initially operating as a traditional manufacturing facility. The company expanded its production capabilities and officially launched its foreign trade services in 2014, eventually building a broader manufacturing network that covered multiple production processes by 2016.

In 2019, RapidDirect transitioned toward digital services by introducing its proprietary online quoting platform to streamline customer orders. This digital infrastructure was enhanced in 2021 into a broader, cloud-based online manufacturing platform featuring automated quoting and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analysis capabilities. Alongside its software development, the company obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification for its quality management system in 2020 and ISO 13485 certification for medical device quality management in 2022.

The company underwent significant physical and geographical expansion in subsequent years. In 2023, RapidDirect relocated to a larger, 10,000-square-metre facility in Shenzhen, integrating its office, factory, and supply chain operations into a single operational base. It broadened its domestic reach in 2024 by establishing branch offices in Changsha, Chengdu, and Hangzhou.

RapidDirect accelerated its international footprint in 2025 through the opening of a manufacturing plant in Vietnam, a United States subsidiary, and a European regional office. In 2026, the company relocated its primary production operations to a standalone factory site within an industrial park to support further scale.

Digital manufacturing platform

The digital platform offered by RapidDirect is intended for the automation of certain aspects of the manufacturing procurement process, and customers are able to upload their CAD files and state the materials they want to use, the quantities needed and their finishing requirements before getting a quotation.[4]

In 2019 the company introduced its instant-quote platform;[5] according to 3D Printing Industry the system was intended to offer automated quotations for a number of prototyping processes and to cut down the time needed to prepare manufacturing quotations; at first it offered services such as 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication and injection molding.[6]

The quotation system looks at the CAD data that has been uploaded and produces details about manufacturing options, materials, finishes, prices and lead times; meanwhile, the platform enables users to manage quotations and keep an eye on orders via one interface.

RapidDirect later added automated DFM analysis to its platform. The DFM system looks at various aspects of a CAD design which may influence manufacturability, such as wall thickness, holes, internal corners and other geometric features.

The system gives users some visual feedback prior to production starting. As noted by Robotics & Automation News, the tool compares the CAD models that have been uploaded with manufacturing data and offers feedback on features including wall thickness, hole dimensions, internal corners and narrow areas.[7]

Manufacturing network

RapidDirect uses its own manufacturing facilities together with a network of manufacturing suppliers in China; the company says that this manufacturing network involves a range of production technologies and allows it to meet various production volumes and part requirements.

The article on this subject, which was published by Plant Automation Technology, stated that the company's manufacturing model included self-owned factories, a digital supplier network, automated order processing and real-time order tracking. The article also mentioned that the company used automated quotation and DFM systems as part of its digital-manufacturing model.

RapidDirect was reported by 3D Printing Industry in 2021 to have two factories in Shenzhen, the area covered by them being more than 3,000 square metres, and to have a wider network of suppliers and manufacturers. The same publication stated that the company provided services to customers in such sectors as aerospace, automotive, medical and consumer goods.

Quality management

RapidDirect says that it has a quality-management system which is certified to ISO 9001:2015; in its manufacturing operations it makes use of inspection equipment such as coordinate-measuring machines, profile projectors and three-dimensional scanners.

The present manufacturing information for the company includes details about the quality-control measures at each stage of production and mentions that the parts can be inspected either through the company's own quality-control processes or by means of third-party laboratories. It also lists the ISO 2768 manufacturing standards as one of the standards applied in its production processes.

The company received ISO 13485 certification in 2022.
