Raja Rithvik Rajavaram (born on 4th May, 2023) is an Indian Chess Grand Master. He is one of the chess prodigies of India. He has become Grand Master at the age of 17 years, 4 months. He is the 70th Grand Master from India and one of the young Grand Masters in the world.[1].

Family

Rithvik was born on 4th May and his native place is Warangal in Telangana, India. His father is an electrical engineer and his mother is a chemistry lecturer. He received chess training under distinguished coaches Bollam Sampat (Warangal), K.Narsimha Rao and NVS Ramaraju (Hyderabad)[2].

Career Milestones

2012-2014: Achieved Silver medal in Commonwealth Championship in 2012 in the Under-8 category held in Chennai. Secured three Gold Medals in the Under-9 category at the Asian Schools Chess Championship in Sri Lanka[3]. Earned a Gold Medal in the Asian Schools Rapid Chess Championship-2012 in the Under-9 Category held in New Delhi.

2015-2017: Earned a Silver Medal in Blitz and a Bronze Medal in standard formats at the Asian Schools Chess Championship-2015 in the Under-11 Category held in Singapore. Achieved 7th position in the FIDE World Schools Chess Blitz Championship-2015 in Under-11 category held in Bangkok, Thailand. At the age of 13 years, secured 6th place in the Under-20 Category in Commonwealth Chess Championship-2017 held in New Delhi. Won two National Titles, in the Under-13 in Jalandhar and in the Under-17 Categories in Coimbatore, in a single calendar year.

2018: Secured five Gold Medals (2 Individual Gold Medals and 3 Team Gold Medals) at the Asian Youth Chess Championship-2018 held in Chiangmai, Thailand. Attained the title of International Master by surpassing the Live Rating of 2400 at Paracin and by getting IM Norms at Bangkok, Mumbai and Novisad, Europe. Awareded the title of International Master by FIDE. Achieved 5th place in the World Youth Rapid Chess Championship-2018 in Greece. Won the GM Round Robin Tournament at Petrovac.

2019: Participated in the simultaneous play with 19 players at Bucharest and was awarded the Diploma. Secured the National title of Under-15 Chess Championship at Erode and obtained a Gold Medal[4]

2021: Attained the title of Grand Master by surpassing a Live Rating of 2500 at the Vezerkepzo GM Mix Tournament in Budapest[5], after achieving three GM Norms at Spain, Slovakia & Hungary.

2022-2023: Conferred the Grand Master Title by the World Chess Federation for outstanding international achievements. Won the National Team Championship - 2022 held in Maharashtra, securing a Team Gold Medal and a 5th Board Gold Medal. Clinched the international title by winning the 9th Chessable Sunway Sitges Open International Blitz Tournament in Spain[6]. Awarded the Individual Board Gold Medal at the South Zone Inter University Chess Tournament 2022-23 in Chennai with 100% score.
