Ragib Hussain Chowdhury[1] (রাগিব হোসেন চৌধুরী)[2] Birth date: 11 April, 1952. He was born in Kubajpur, Upazila: Jagannathpur, District: Sunamganj.

Biography: Ragib Hussain Chowdhury is a well-known journalist, editor, poet, novelist, essayist, and literary organizer from Bangladesh. He entered the literary field in the early seventies with his brave and stirring movement, establishing a literary organization and publishing two magazines while also editing several others. He organized literary meetings, poetry reading programs, conferences, and seminars, revitalizing the slumbering city of Sylhet and making the literary and cultural arena of greater Sylhet stronger and faster.

Chowdhury served as a editor of Al-Islah for four years, followed by editor-in-chief for another four years, and president of the editorial board for an additional four years. Under his leadership, the magazine has remained dynamic ever since. He also served as the president of Central Muslim Sahitya Sangsad for four years and is the editor of the monthly magazine Village Digest.

Chowdhury has received numerous literary awards, including the Mahakabi Syed Sultan Literary Award, the UK-based B. N. S. A. Award, the Bricklain Award, the Rotary Club Award, and the Ragib-Rabeya Literary Award, introduced by industrialist Ragib Ali. Dr. London Mominul Haque Academy also awarded him the Sahitya Ratna for his contributions to literature and literary organization.

During his student life at Madan Mohan College, Sylhet, he became involved with various literary organizations, which helped to cultivate his passion for literature. After starting his career as a teacher at Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College, Sylhet, he eventually became fully immersed in the literary world, establishing Jagoron Press and Jagriti Prakashani.

He also served two terms as the president-elect of the organization, from 2007-2008 and 2009-2010. His leadership and dedication to the Central Muslim Sahitya Sangsad (কেন্দ্রীয় মুসলিম সাহিত্য সংসদ) helped to promote and preserve the literary heritage of Bangladesh.

Marriage and children

Ragib Hussain Chowdhury got married in 1981 with Layla Ragib[7], who was a poet, essayist. Unfortunately, Layla passed away suddenly in 1986, leaving behind her grieving husband and two children. After the sudden dearth of Layla, Ragib Hussain Chowdhury wed her younger sister Noor Jahan Rumi[7]. Ragib and Layla has a daughter Rubayet Hasina Juma[7] (birthdate – 1982) and son Labid Hussain Chowdhury [7]. (birthdate 25 December, 1984).
