Rae Sanchini is an American film producer. She was the long-time president of James Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, and has served as a producer and executive producer on many of Cameron's films, including True Lies (1994), Strange Days (1995), and Titanic (1997).[1]

Education

Sanchini attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a joint Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration (JD/MBA) degree in 1987.[2]

Career

After graduating from UCLA, Sanchini worked as an executive at Carolco Pictures. She joined Lightstorm Entertainment in 1992 and was appointed president of the company in 1993, succeeding Larry Kasanoff.[3] In this role, she oversaw operations including film production, financing, distributor relations, and strategic planning, and served as executive producer on Lightstorm's projects.[4]

She was the executive producer of the 1997 film Titanic.[5][6]

Sanchini also produced the 2002 science fiction film Solaris, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Soderbergh pitched his adaptation of the novel directly to Cameron, Sanchini, and Landau.[7]

After a period away from the industry, Sanchini returned as an executive producer on the True Lies television series in 2023. Following the death of Jon Landau, Sanchini returned to a producing role for the upcoming Avatar sequels.[8][9]

Eliza Dushku controversy

In 2018, actress Eliza Dushku alleged that she was sexually assaulted by stunt coordinator Joel Kramer on the set of True Lies when she was 12. Dushku's agent at the time, JoAnne Colonna, told Deadline Hollywood that she had reported Kramer's inappropriate behavior to Sanchini. In a statement to Deadline, Sanchini said she had been unaware of the allegations and that, "Had I known, I would have taken immediate and forceful action."[10][11]
