Rachel Purnell is a Daytime Emmy Awards winning British executive television producer, known for her work with Ina Garten on the Barefoot Contessa and Be My Guest, Ree Drummond on The Pioneer Woman and Nigella Lawson on Nigella Bites, Nigella Feasts, Nigella Express and Nigella Kitchen.
Early life and education
Rachel Purnell was born in Cambridge, where her father John Howard Purnell was working at University of Cambridge before relocating the family back to Bishopston, Swansea in 1965. She attended Cheltenham Ladies College in Cheltenham, England before studying English at the Kings College London.
Career
After leaving university, Rachel worked as a journalist at Radio City (Liverpool) and then as an on-screen reporter at Granada TV.
In 1987, Rachel became joint Head of Programmes at the all live network L!VE TV and was the Editor of Youth Programmes at the BBC, executive producing Rough Guides to Europe, Reportage (TV show) and The Living Soap. In 1996 Rachel became MTV Europe's Executive Director and Senior Vice President of Programming, Production, On Air, Talent and Artist Relations, executive producing of the MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2000, Rachel set up a production company Pacific Television, going on to make Nigella Bites, Nigella Feasts, Nigella Express and Nigella Kitchen as well as Baking Made Easy and Home Cooking Made Easy with Lorraine Pascale, Barefoot Contessa with Ina Garten, The Pioneer Woman with Ree Drummond, Siba's table with Siba Mtongana, Life's a Party with David Burtka, Mary McCartney Serves it Up with Mary McCartney and Taste of the Country with Julius Roberts.
With her team at Pacific Television, Rachel has won two Daytime Emmy Awards, two James Beard Awards, six New York Festivals awards, two US International Film & Video Festival awards and 6 Telly Awards.[1][2]
