Régine Sitruk-Ware is a French physician, and reproductive endocrinologist currently serving as Distinguished Scientist at the Population Council's Center for Biomedical Research.
Education and career
Régine Sitruk-Ware earned her M.D. from the University of Paris in France. Her work focuses on preclinical and basic research in reproductive biology and clinical development of new contraceptive technologies, which notably led to the development and FDA approval of Annovera.[1] Along with researchers from the NICHD, University of Washington, and the Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Sitruk-Ware is working on a novel reversible male hormonal contraceptive gel known as the NES/T gel.[2]
She is co-founder of the International Consortium of Male Contraception, a network dedicated to actively promoting the medical and socio-cultural aspects of male contraception.[3] She was the first woman to join the International Committee for Contraception Research and became its first female chairperson in 2007.[4]
Honors and awards
In 2018 Sitruk-Ware was named one of Time Magazine's most influential people in healthcare for leading work on Annovera, and on male contraception.[5] She was awarded the 2022 Society of Family Planning Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to contraceptive and reproductive science.[6]
