Purna Rai (Nepali : पूर्ण राई) is a Nepali singer-songwriter and an overall music enthusiast. Rai is noted for his symmetry of emotive vocals, lyrical genius, sinuous metaphors, and musical versatility. In 2018, Rai released his first single "Ma" (2019), and gained prominence after the release of "Manka Kura" (2021) and "Dhurwa Tara" (2023).
Early life
Purna Rai was born on June 20, 1997, in Dharan, Nepal, and raised there. Rai grew up in a musical family where his parents taught him to play the guitar, and he and his three brothers would write, sing, and compose music together. His family has influenced most of his musical journey to this date.
Rai did his schooling at Delhi Public School in Dharan and attended Salesian college in Sonada Darjeeling for his higher studies. Throughout his academic journey, Rai has been actively performing at events and showcasing his passion for music through live performances.
Musical career
Rai's voice was introduced to the world with his debut single "Ma" (2019) which was recorded and uploaded on YouTube. Rai then released songs like "Kasto Lagyo Maya" (2019) and "Biram" (2020) which gained quite popularity. His second single "Manaka Kura" (2021) was a big breakthrough in Rai's career, with the song being streamed over 16 million times on YouTube.
Rai continued to make songs after the great hit, such as "Ma Frustrated Nepali" (2022), which addressed injustice and political instability in Nepal. Its screenplay depicts Nepal's harsh reality and dejected residents.
Following the popularity of these songs, Rai made a significant comeback with "Dhurwa Tara" (2023), which received over a million views on YouTube. The music video for the song was produced by Kagaaz Productions.
Through thick and thin, high mellows, and soaring symphonies, Rai has managed to summon us with his music.
