Potential Studios LLP is a Chennai-based film production house founded in 2013 by S. R. Prakash Babu, S. R. Prabhu, P. Gopinath, and R. Thanga Prabaharan. The production house's mission is to deliver high-quality films, with a particular focus on nurturing new talent in the industry. Notably, out of the five films produced thus far, three were directed by debutant directors, showcasing their commitment to fostering fresh and creative talent in the world of cinema.

One of their notable productions is Maya (2015), a horror film directed by debutant Ashwin and starring Nayanthara. "Maya" marked Nayanthara's capacity to carry a movie on her own and was released in both Tamil and Telugu languages.[1][2][3][4][5]

In Maanagaram (2017), another production of the studio, directed by debutant Lokesh Kanagaraj, the audience experienced a unique hyperlink film. The movie featured Sundeep Kishan, Shri, Regina Cassandra, and Charlie in lead roles, with an intriguing twist of not revealing any of the lead characters' names.[6][7][8][9]

Monster (2019) directed by Nelson, was another remarkable project. This film starring S. J. Suryah and Priya Bhavani Shankar was not just known for its storytelling but also for the inclusion of a live rat in the cast. Importantly, none of the rat scenes used VFX, highlighting the dedication to authenticity in their productions.[10][11][12]

Their 2022 release, Taanakkaran, directed by debutant Tamizh, showcased Vikram Prabhu, Anjali Nair, and Lal in lead roles and was directly released on Disney+ Hotstar in four languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.[13][14][15][16]

The studio's most recent venture is Irugapatru (2023), directed by Yuvaraj Dhayalan and featuring Vikram Prabhu, Shraddha Srinath, Shri, Saniya Ayyappan, Viddharth, and Abarnathi in prominent roles. The movie, released on October 6, 2023, in Tamil, introduced a unique social experiment teaser and an accompanying website, irugapatru.com.[17][18][19]

Besides their productions, S. R. Prabu has actively contributed to the Tamil film industry, serving as the Treasurer of the Tamil Film Producers Council from 2017 to 2019. Currently, he holds the position of Vice President in the Tamil Film Active Producers Association since 2020.
