Pontosense Inc. is a Canadian artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor company that designs wireless sensing systems for measuring vital signs without wearable technology. Pontosense’s mmWave RADAR technology is used in the automotive industry, expanding into AgeTech and smart home.[citation needed]

History

Pontosense was founded 2021 by Yihong Qi[1] and Alex S. Qi in Waterloo, Ontario. They are now headquartered in Toronto, Ontario with continuous research and development in Waterloo and in other countries including Japan, Germany, and China. [2]

Technology

Pontosense’s product is an AI sensor that uses radio frequency (RF) sensing to capture micromovements made by a person’s body as a result of their breathing and heartbeats, leading to wireless vital sign monitoring capabilities.[3] In the automotive industry, Pontosense delivers solutions for on-road driver and passenger monitoring for applications such as Child Presence Detection (CPD), intrusion detection, smart airbag deployment, and seatbelt reminders. Using other health metrics such as heart rate variability, Pontosense technology can also monitor driver alertness, intoxication and drowsiness for enhanced on-road safety features.[4]

Awards and Recognition

  • IEEE HITC Award for Excellence in Hyper-Intelligence (Industrial Impact Award), Winner 2022[5]
  • AutoTech Detroit Automotive Cockpit of the Future/Connectivity/User Experience Product/Service of the Year, shortlisted 2023[6]
