Polina Herman

Polina Herman[1] is an LA-based Ukrainian producer, member of the European and Ukrainian Film Academies, Film Independent, the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, European Psychodrama Association (PAfE), Institute of Psychodrama, Modern Psychology, and Psychotherapy, member of International Documentary Association, student of Professional Program in Producing of UCLA School of Theater Film & Television.

Born in Mykolaiv, she spent her childhood in Crimea. Later Polina moved to Kyiv, where she founded the film company UP UA STUDIO. Since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion in 2022, she has been living in Los Angeles. Here she organized the Ukrainian Film Days with the support of the American Cinematheque and continues to work on Ukrainian and international projects.

Education

  • In 2023, Polina starts the Professional Program in Producing of UCLA School of Theater Film & Television.
  • In 2013 she graduated from Kyiv National Theater, Cinema, and Television University, I. Karpenko-Kary with a degree in the Organization of Cinema and Television Production.
  • In 2011 she graduated from Kyiv Institute of Culture and Arts with a degree in Marketing and Public Relations.
  • In 2011 she studied marketing and advertising at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Career

In 2012, she began to work in cinema production. In 2013, she was engaged in promotion of Ukrainian films as PR-Director in Insight Media LLC («Normal Case», «Ivan Power», «Istalgia»). After that she began to deal with the distribution of Ukrainian films in companies LLC «435 FILMS» and LLC «Big Hand FILMS».

In 2014, Polina Herman was engaged in the organization and promotion of various social projects, such as «Week of Ukrainian Cinema in support of Oleg Sentov», charity shows of the film «Our hope». Also she began to work at «435 FILMS» company .

In 2016, Polina organized «Days of Ukrainian Cinema in Hamburg». Since the beginning of 2016, she worked as an executive producer of LLC «Tatofilm» of the short narrative movie «Synagogue» and LLC «Insaithmed» of the animation film «Travel», which was implemented with the support of the State Agency of Ukraine on Cinema. Since 2016 she worked at the State Film Studio «National Kinematka of Ukraine» as a producer. After that she found her own company – UP UA STUDIO.

In 2020 she initiated one of the most popular cinema events in Kyiv – Open Air Film Festival[2]. It is a large Ukrainian open-air cinematographic event supported by the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinematography. The two-month festival has been held in one of Kyiv's central parks since 2020. About 60 Ukrainian films were visited by more than 15,000 spectators each season.

Open Air Cinema Vernissage was attended by approximately 45 thousand guests in total. It had a very positive response from both audiences: the film community and the local and national media. There was any TV channel that ignored the event. During that period, about 30 videos and publications dedicated to the event were published.
