Yayasan Planet Indonesia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that operates in West Kalimantan, Indonesia and provides community-based services in rural communities through the protection and restoration of ecosystems and endangered species. Planet Indonesia was founded in 2014. Planet Indonesia - USA is a non-profit organization that operates in the United States to support the work conducted in Indonesia.[1]
Science and research
Planet Indonesia plays a role in species specialist groups including the IUCN helmeted hornbill working group.[2][3]
Project Sites
Yayasan Planet Indonesia currently works in three project sites in West Kalimantan, Borneo.[4]
- Kubu Raya
A 78,000 hectare coastal mangrove ecosystem encompassing 6 villages.[5]
- Gunung Nanning
Located in the 2 million hectare Arabella-Schwanner landscape.[6]
Planet Indonesia conservation programs
Planet Indonesia conserves ecosystems in Indonesia through holistic strategies that integrate community-led monitoring and rule enforcement with access to community healthcare, poverty reduction initiatives through access to equitable financial capital, and livelihood development to empower communities to shift towards sustainable livelihoods. Planet Indonesia is primarily a grassroots organization that focuses on protecting at-risk ecosystems through village-led patnerships.[7]
In 2014, Planet Indonesia started providing services to one village with 17 households but is now working with over 17,000 families living in West Kalimantan, Borneo.[8]
