Picnic Kibun were an indie band from Santiago, Chile formed in 2007.
History
(2007-2009)
After finishing college, Harvey Jones moved to Santiago to learn spanish. Juan Necochea, Cristobal Korenblit and Eduardo Vila-Echagüe met through common university friends. They all began making music in 2006.[1][2] Picnic Kibun officially formed in 2006 when Vila-Echagüe (Herbie West) and Korenblit (Blit) invited Jones and Necochea to perform together. [3]. The band put together a 4 song demo EP which they used to win the Super45's "Nuevos Sonidos 2007", an annual contest scouting the best bands from Chile's underground music. ([2]
In 2008, the band released the only LP format piece called Fiebre Tagadá. Soon after the album release, Vila-Echagüe and Korenblit left the band.[4]
(2009-2014)
After the departure of Vila-Echagüe and Korenblit, a friend of the band and front lady/drummer with Miss Garrison, Fran Straube (Rubio) joined the band for all live performances. Picnic Kibun developed a reputation for their wild and energetic performances.[4]. As part of a small indie group of successful local Chilean bands, they were acclaimed for their lo-fi, high energy originality. [4] [5]
The band called a hiatus in 2014 when Jones moved to London.[6]
