Phung Pham (1932) is a Vietnamese modern artist known for combining a modern artistic language with traditional Vietnamese themes in his paintings.[1]. Phung Pham is one of the first students of the Vietnam College of Fine Arts, Class I (1957-1960) for intermediate fine arts program and later Class 9 (1965 - 1970) for college degree[2]. In 1990, Phung Pham won the Gold Medal in the Vietnam Nationwide Fine Arts Exhibition with his "Fighting Against Drought" lacquer painting in 1990[3], the same year that Nguyen Tu Nghiem won the First Prize in the same competition with his "Giong" lacquer painting[4]. Phung Pham's "Fighting Against Drought" then became part of the permanent collection at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.[5]

In 2022, Ms Ellen Berends, a former Dutch Embassador in various countries and worked in Vietnam in 1997 to 2001, donated two lacquer paintings made by Phung Pham to the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.[6]

To date, Phung has had more than ten solo and group exhibitions in Vietnam and overseas[7]
